DSA president, Alison Jimenez, presented and served as a delegate at the United Nations conference entitled Mainstreaming Gender Perspectives in Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Financing of Terrorism. The conference was hosted by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime in Vienna, Austria.
Alison Jimenez co-presented with Carole House, Special Advisor for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure at the White House National Security Council, on the Intersection of AML/CTF and Gender.
Ms. Jimenez kicked off the panel with the insight that one of the most impactful actions to prevent the backsliding of women’s rights globally is to prevent extremism through Counter Terror Finance. Ms. Jimenez and Ms. House discussed the roles women have played as participants and in countering terror finance, money laundering and cybercrime. Finally, Ms. Jimenez discussed how the lack of disaggregated gender data from IC3 complaints and Suspicious Activity Reports hinders informed decision making.
Ms. Jimenez facilitated roundtable workshops with delegates from 30+ countries to identify gender-based risk indicators, red flags, and develop a victim-centered approach to AML/ CTF.
